Arthur Fagen conducts Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet in Atlanta, and soon after he will conduct the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hungarian State Opera House

Atlanta Opera Music Director Arthur Fagen conducts his second production this season, after the success of Puccini’s La Bohème in October last year (see reviews). Not seen on the Atlanta Opera stage since almost ten years, Charles Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet is regarded as composer’s best achievement, and has correspondingly produced numerous performances. The Atlanta Opera’s version is a rare, magnificent visual treat. Performances on May 7, 10, 13 and 15, 2016. Always on Shakespeare’s mood, Mr. Fagen conducts on May 30 the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungary’s oldest institution, with a program including Dvorak’s Othello, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.
