Philip Glass’s opera Akhnaten conducted by ARTHUR FAGEN in Atlanta was extremely well-received

The Atlanta premiere of Philip Glass’s opera Akhnaten conducted by Arthur Fagen on January 23 and 25 has opened to an overwhelming public response at the Schwartz Center. The composer was present at the last performance, and Pierre Ruhe of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote that “ It was the hottest ticket of the season, with sold out performances and great acclaim at evening’s end…..And Atlanta Opera gave it the same level of preparation and care it gives its usual fare: mostly well sung; smart and literal stage direction (by Richard Kagey); an orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fagen, that caught the sweep of the music ….” Mr. Fagen will return in April to Atlanta to conduct Wagner’s ‘Der Fliedende Hollaender’ ( The Flying Dutchman).
