Arthur Fagen conducted the Richmond Symphony Orchestra with a program including Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture. Mr. Fagen was joined by soloist Yang Wei for a work by composer Bright Sheng, ‘Nanking! Nanking’, a Threnody for Orchestra and Pipa. Soon after, he flew to Italy where he conducted the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo on November 22, joined by pianist Benedetto Lupo in Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 448. The program prepared for the Sanremo Symphony was part of a Haydn cycle and included Haydn’s Symphony nr. 84 in E-Flat Major of the so-called Paris Symphonies. Mr. Fagen opened the evening with Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture op. 43. Both concerts earned enthusiastic reviews.
