Mr. Fagen’s long term relationship with Naxos label goes on with a new project of complete piano concertos by Bohuslav Martinu, to be recorded in October with pianist Giorgio Koukl and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra of Zlin, Czech Republic, and to be released next year commemorating the 50th anniversary of composer’s death. Soon after he will start rehearsals in Portland of Beethoven’s opera Fidelio, to be premiered on November 7th.
Mr. Fagen continues to celebrate contemporary music with the Atlanta Premiere of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten in January 2009, mesmerizing historical drama about the pharaoh who overthrew the old order. He has established a flourishing relationship with the Atlanta Opera, where he inaugurated the new Opera House, performed two new productions last season and will conduct operas by Wagner and Mozart in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons.
In 2008/2009 he will also conduct the NRD Hannover in Braunschweig and at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the New Year concert of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento with American composers repertory, and was invited again to conduct the Winterthur Orchestra in Switzerland in 2009.
